The Gateway to the highlands at Pitlochry is within an hours drive.
Dundee has a growing reputation for knowledge and innovation, the City has 2 Universities, the University of Dundee and the University of Abertay Dundee. In addition to this the Al-Maktoum Institute for Islamic & Arabic Studies and Dundee College cater for in excess of 40,000 students each year giving Dundee the highest student population ratio of Scotland's 32 local Authorities.
Computer games, animation and electronic entertainment are important aspects of Dundee's Creative Industries sector with the majority of around 350 businesses operating in the area of digital media in Tayside being based in Dundee.
Only Oxford and Cambridge can claim to have more significant Life Sciences communities, Dundee has attracted some of the world's top scientists and the long established links between the University of Dundee and Ninewells Hospital, which in its self is one of Europe's top foremost teaching hospitals, have led to several internationally accepted developments in Cancer research, Cell biology, diagnostics and biotechnology.
